There are few places in the world that are as beautiful as Australia, but are you doing enough to appreciate the place right under your feet? Let’s face it, we don’t need to jet off to find tropical weather, stunning beaches, vibrant cities or breathtaking terrain- it all really is right here in our own country. Here are some of the ways you can enjoy an Australian staycation, no need to fly abroad!
Go to the great barrier reef
The great barrier reef is one of the natural wonders of the world- something that people all across the globe come to visit. But have you ever been yourself? You can go swimming, boating, you can go on excursions to the surrounding islands such as Lady Musgrave. You could take your friends with you and make some memories while taking in some of the most spectacular views on the planet. If you live close enough to travel by car you could even take your dog with you, one of the biggest plus points of a staycation!
Visit all of the main cities
Have you visited all of the main Australian cities? Chances are you grew up in (or near) one of them, but how about the rest? Each is incredibly diverse, interesting and unique so it’s really not a case of ‘if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.’ Check out when different festivals and events are on so you can time your visit with something that really interests you. Enjoy the retail therapy, eat in nice restaurants and do all of the things you’d do if you were going on a city break abroad. Best of all the beach is never far so if you get bored or fancy a more relaxing day you can take a trip down and soak up some sun and drink some cocktails.
Explore the outback
Are you up for a challenge? Then why not explore the outback. You can visit the incredible national parks, go on camel treks or go on a road trip. With some of the most difficult terrain to overcome it’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s something you can really feel proud of yourself for doing once you come out the other side. Don’t overlook how dangerous the outback can be, make sure you do your research and have the right supplies with you before travelling through. With parts being so remote, the last thing you want is to end up stuck or stranded.
