9 ways to make your home feel more luxurious

There's so many things you can do to make your home feel more luxurious. You don’t have to have a ton of money, but you should know where to spend and where to save to get the best results.

Here are our top 9 tips on creating a more lux feel in your abode...

1. Bring That Furniture Away From The Wall

Chances are, some of your furniture is pushed against the wall in some of your rooms. This can be unavoidable if some of your rooms are very small, but there are likely going to be some instances where you can pull it away to make it look better.

Try starting all over again. Picture your room as a blank canvas and try to figure out what sort of layout makes better sense or is more functional to your needs. You shouldn’t be tripping over things as you make your way around the home, and your furniture and accessories should have plenty of space to breathe.

Sometimes, simply pulling items away from the wall a few inches can make things look more luxurious and less claustrophobic. If you’re totally confused and don’t know how to create a better layout at all, it could be a good idea to use a lay out app by inputting your measurements and see what it comes up with for you.

2. Invest In Amazing Artwork

Artwork is key and should be included in every home, whatever style you’re trying to achieve. You could hang one oversized piece on a blank wall, or you could get a little more creative and have an eclectic gallery wall with various pieces of various sizes. Using different frame sizes and creating a fun lay out by first testing it out on the floor is a good idea. Take your time finding pieces that you love the look of, and don’t be afraid to invest in the piece that will ‘make’ the wall - usually the largest piece that you purchase.

3. Create More Space

Aim to create more space in your home for a luxury look. It isn’t always about having as many nice items as you can afford or fit into a space! The minimal look can also be very powerful. If you’re going to struggle to create more space without getting rid of key items, then you could look into home extensions to get an idea of whether this could be a good idea for you. Think about what you want to achieve in your home, what you will do with the extra space, how much this will add on to the resale value if you ever come to sell the place, and more.

4. Don’t Skimp On Flowers And Plants

Flowers and plants are a must have. They make us happier, according to science, and they have health benefits too. There aren't many other beautiful accessories you can buy that purify the air! This can be an expensive habit, however, so it might be a good idea to invest in realistic looking fake pieces - although you won’t enjoy the same health benefits with these.

Don’t just have one plant in a room, either. Try styling multiple plants, and even have a couple of large plants to bring even more texture. It’s a great way to bring the outdoors in and make your home feel cosier, as well as more luxurious.

5. Let In More Natural Light

Natural light will help you to feel more energized, as well as help your space to look lighter, more airy, and bigger in some cases. Open those blinds or drapes or choose new window dressings that allow you to do this effectively. The great thing about choosing the right window dressings is that they will help you to keep the heat in during winter, and keep the place cool during summer, also helping you to save money!

6. Get Rid Of Your Clutter

Clutter is never a good thing to have in the home. A cluttered space can often lead to a cluttered mind! Make sure you’re getting rid of letters as soon as you know whether you need them or not, that you haven’t got junk lying around in various surfaces, and that you’re working to take care of visual clutter, too. For instance, if you have too many small accessories in one room, it’ll make it look more cluttered and busy rather than luxurious. You’re better off spending your money on one really nice accessory or ornament, rather than lots of small ones that don’t really add to the look of your space.

7. Repurpose Items You Already Own

If you fancy yourself as a creative and like to get your DIY on, you could try to repurpose items that you already own. You could reupholster an old chair to make it look more lavish, for example. Get creative with items that you’ve fell out of love with or no longer use. At the very least, you could sell these items to make more cash to put towards your new luxury decor.

8. Choose Your Color Scheme Carefully

Your color scheme will make all the difference to your home. If you have a smaller place, using lighter colors is often best, as they reflect light and help the space to look bigger. Dark colors such as rich purple can look better in big spaces, as they give a cosier, more regal atmosphere. However, there are no hard and fast rules to the colors you should use. Use the colors that make you happy! Just make sure you either match or clash professionally by using a color wheel.

9. Invest In Quality Items That Matter

Figure out what really matters to you and make an effort to invest in quality items that will enrich your life. For example, if you love having a spotless home, invest in a quality cordless vacuum so you can get the job done quicker and to a higher standard. If you love entertaining friends, buy some quality garden furniture, a firepit, and suitable lighting so you can have garden parties with friends all year round!
