Jordy spends 5 minutes with Michelle Bridges talking motherhood, her career and what's in store for 2021.
2020 was a crazy year for everyone, how was it for you?
It was a massive year for me. Definitely one of the most challenging of my life, however one of the most freeing and empowering ones too.
I grew even more closer to my son, my family and my friends, the people who are my rocks.
You posted about turning 50 and being free to be you. What are some of the big lessons you've learned so far?
Always be you! Trying to change who you are, playing down yourself or doing things to make others happy never works. You end up feeling empty and they’ll always want more.
To truly live your life you must be free to be yourself. Those who love you for you will always be there.
How did motherhood change you?
I discovered a love like never before. It grew me in a way that makes me a better person. I see the world very differently, sometimes for the better, sometimes not (you tend to worry more about them and their safety) it’s a gift.
How do you encourage health and wellness as a Mum?
With Axel it is quite easy. He eats what I eat. We walk the dog together. He gets to see me train. We go on bike rides. We play soccer at the beach. We go on bushwalks. We play in the pool. Because I am quite active, Axel likes to be active.
I make sure he tries new things, for example he helps me cook so I am always trying to introduce new and healthy foods to him and if he likes it, then that is a win!
You've just released a Mum & me line with BIG W, what inspired this?
Yes! I am so excited to launch my new range at BIG W stores, there’s so many gorgeous new pieces for active mums who want to match with their girls. As a health and wellness advocate, I want to help inspire a healthy mindset as well as good life habits in people, but I understand that these habits are normally instilled at a very young age.
I want mums to be able to get active and connect with their girls, so they can create these habits together, plus, haven’t we all wanted to do what mum does and wear what mum wears? In terms of design aesthetics, I really took inspiration from sun scorched deserts – yellow, terracotta, sand, black and dusty blues. The pop of abstract animal print is also my favourite highlight.
What else is in store for 2021?
My 12WBT business has some really exciting new programs and initiatives coming up, we continue to support and encourage as many Australians as we can towards better health and well-being. I am continuing to grow my MB Active range with Big W.
You will also see me again on television this year on Celebrity Apprentice Australia on Channel 9. It is going to be a super fun but super chaotic show which was a lot of fun to be a part of. I’ll also be a school mum as Axel will be at school five days a week and of course a business woman but I will make sure to find time for me too.
