When you work from home, trying to find motivation can be one of the biggest challenges you face.
Setting yourself a schedule and sticking to it helps, but if you’re really going to be productive then you need to put some effort into your home office. Setting up a proper desk area is important but you’ve got to remember that people work best when they’re in a good mood. People often don’t put enough thought into making their home office a nice place to be. Don’t just think about what a normal office looks like, you’re in control now so you need to start thinking about what your dream home office looks like. If you dread going into the office and starting work every morning, you need to make some of these simple changes to brighten the place up a little bit.
Choose Your Colour Palette Wisely
Staring at blank walls all day long is going to drive you crazy and you’ll easily start distracting yourself. There are also certain colours that are best for concentration and productivity. I've read that shades of blue, orange, and green stimulate the mind and encourage hard work, but I opted for greys and blush tones because that's what I love.
Decorate The Walls
Regardless of what colour you paint the walls, it’s still going to be a little boring if you don’t have any decoration anywhere. It doesn’t need to be anything too extravagant, just buy some nice prints and get a picture framing company to frame them for you. Sticking up unframed posters is going to make the office look unprofessional which is never good for work. If you need an extra boost, why not get some great inspirational quotes up on the wall. Kmart have some great affordable prints that will keep you inspired!
Rugs
You never want to be too comfortable in your home office, otherwise, you won’t get any work done. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little bit of luxury in there. Getting a nice rug under the desk to sink your feet into is a great way to add an extra level of comfort without making the office too relaxing to concentrate in. It’s also a good way to inject an extra burst of colour into the room without being too overwhelming and distracting.
Bring The Outdoors In
Natural light has been proven to increase productivity so always make sure that you’re sat near a window and keep it open in the summer to improve the air flow. Plants are an absolute must for me as well. They clean the air in the office and brighten the whole place up. If you’re not great at keeping them alive then succulents are a great option. They only need to be watered about once a week and they’re pretty hardy so if you forget from time to time, they won’t die on you.
